By name Mauricio, is recognized as one of the best Chilean stencileros. He spent years studying architecture and since 2006 dedicated to “callejero” art called stencil. He practices the so-called “Conscious Art”, which his work relates to the uncomfortable truth that one wants to forget. It is social criticism to what is going on, to denounce it, the deception, etc. His work is the result of the mix of actions and volunteers that come from the installation of the work. His work shows the influence of Nicanor Parra (Quebrantahuesos) and the famous “callejero” artist Banksy. “Siempre trato que el stencil funcione como crónica urbana. Creo en la urgencia, en la necesidad de denunciar con prontitud aquellos actos horrorosos e inaceptables. A veces el tiempo no me acompaña, porque son muchas las denuncias que se podrían hacer a diario”. (Mauricio). In the fall of 2019, protests began in Chile’s capital, Santiago, in response to an increase in the subway fares, as well as general cost of living and social inequality. Demonstrations, vandalism, and riots appeared throughout the country, bringing over a million people into the streets to protest against President Piñera, demanding his resignation. In 2016, the artist wrote: My name is Mauricio Huenún, I work in the art of the stencil, a branch of graffiti. In the street world I call myself Pikoenelojo Stencil, a stamp with which I stamp images on public walls referring to political, religious and social situations or events (pages and notes that account for my work can be found in the Google search engine).
